Car toll: decision on inquiry committee falls Monday

2019-09-06T15:46:25.815Z

A commission on car tolls is approaching. According to Greens and FDP, according to SPIEGEL information, the Left also wants to be enlightened by the Bundestag about the events surrounding the failed road toll.

Monday could be decisive for the political career of Federal Minister of Transport Andreas Scheuer. Since the European Court of Justice (ECJ) this summer has crushed the prestige project of the CSU, the car toll, with a verdict, he is counted as.

The opposition accuses him of overhearing a two billion contract with the operator companies CTS Eventim and Kapsch before the verdict was pronounced - to the detriment of the taxpayer, who is now threatened with damages of more than half a billion euros.

Left debates whether she wants to contribute to the committee of inquiry

The Left Group wants to decide after SPIEGEL information on whether they want to support a committee of inquiry. The responsible politician of the left, Jörg Cézanne, sees the transport minister actually convicted of having brought the taxpayer a lot of money. "However, there are still a whole series of questions open, which we can probably only enlighten with a committee of inquiry," said Cézanne the SPIEGEL. He wanted to explain the facts to the deputies of his party and then ask for a joint decision.

If the leftists vote for it, then there should be the committee, especially since the necessary 25 percent vote of all members of parliament as a condition for the committee would exist. For both the Greens and the FDP have already spoken out for a committee of inquiry. The Greens had already invited Scheuer to assume political responsibility.

It is about subcontracting Scheuers for more than 800 million euros

"There is nothing left but that the transport minister resigns," the Green parliamentarian Oliver Krischer had said in August. At that time, the Greens had submitted a legal opinion, which had come to the conclusion that Scheuer had ignored the Parliament and committed constitutional breach.

Today, there was renewed involvement between the opposition and the Ministry of Transport. It is about the question of whether Scheuer is responsible for subcontracting between the toll operators and subsidiaries. These were finally signed shortly after the termination of the toll contract by the Ministry.

Scheuer therefore accuses the toll companies of wanting to enrich themselves at the expense of taxpayers, because they could be included in the compensation. "Minister Scheuer has even in December 2018 subcontracts for 895 million euros in the contract to order," said FDP traffic expert Oliver Luksic the SPIEGEL.

All this, the deputies could be told by Scheuer soon in a committee of inquiry - under oath.
