Potager City is now under the crossroads of Carrefour. The distribution group has just announced this Monday evening the acquisition of this start-up, created in 2007 and specialized in the delivery by online subscription of baskets of “extra-fresh” fruits and vegetables and produced on short circuits. "Potager City relies on a network of 750 local producers, market gardeners and arboriculturalists," points out Amélie Oudéa-Castera, director of e-commerce, data and digital transformation for the Carrefour group. This allows consumers to have access to local production of very good quality, in season and selected by experts. "

It is thus a weekly subscription without commitment with a starting price of € 16.90 for the box "small tribe" which includes for example 0.7 kg of sweet dored pear, 0.2 kg of lentils from Puy PDO, 1 piece of smooth red cabbage, 0.6 kg of leek, 0.6 kg of Royal Gala apple, 0.6 kg of organic Tarocco Orange and 0.7 kg of Mona Lisa potato.

And if you don't like one of the ingredients, it is obviously possible to request another basket. “But these are seasonal products. There are no strawberries in winter, for example, she continues. It also allows consumers to familiarize themselves with new vegetables. Especially since recipes are delivered with the box. "

“The food transition for all”

The large tribe formula (with double these quantities) is € 30.50. In both cases, it is possible to add ingredients such as organic eggs (€ 3 for 6) or a mixture of organic pulses (€ 3 for 125 g). “30% of the products offered are organic. But it is not all because we did not want organic to create a price barrier, ”says Amélie Oudéa-Castera.

These baskets are obviously more expensive than if you buy your vegetables on the supermarket shelf. It should also be noted that on average, a French household spends a little less than € 450 per year on vegetables and fruit (i.e. € 8.60 per week). "But it's not comparable. This is a premium offer at a price that remains accessible. Our goal is the food transition for all, ”she says.

Today, the start-up, which employs 110 people, delivers to 350 cities in France (in seven regions). The baskets are to be collected in relay points, mainly florists or small food shops. The delivery costs are included in the initial price.

But tomorrow, or rather in the coming months, it will be possible for Carrefour.fr customers to order these boxes via their drive and collect them on this occasion, or for those who go directly to the Potager City site to have them deliver to the corner Carrefour. "This will accelerate the territorial network of the offer and allow our 1.5 million e-commerce customers to access it," she concludes.
