During a working lunch at the Presidential Palace of the Elysée Palace, the two leaders will discuss the " Extraordinary European Council of February 20, on the future European budget, Brexit, EU enlargement, migration , European economic and budgetary policy and the Conference on the future of Europe, "said the French Presidency. The parties supporting MM. Macron and Rutte are part of the same political family in the European Parliament, Renew Europe.
The summit of February 20 promises to be difficult because the 27 EU member states will have to try to find a compromise on the next " multi-annual financial framework " of the EU (2021-2027). Parliament defends budget at 1.3% of EU gross national income, while Commission recommends 1.114% (i.e. a budget of 1.134 billion euros at constant 2018 prices, or 1.279 billion euros at constant prices common), but some states, including the Netherlands, do not want to hear about a budget of more than 1%.
