The reactor n ° 1 of the Fessenheim nuclear power plant, the oldest in France in operation, was disconnected from the national electricity grid on Saturday around 2 am, as expected, EDF announced.

The shutdown of the 900-megawatt reactor began around 8:30 p.m. Friday evening. The procedure went normally, with great emotion in the control room, according to EDF.
The second reactor of the plant will be shut down on June 30. Then will begin a long phase of dismantling which should last twenty years.
