The presidents of the two French automotive groups PSA and Renault, Carlos Tavares and Jean-Dominique Senard, will be received Wednesday at 1 p.m. by the Minister of Economy Bruno Le Maire, Bercy told AFP, against the background of the crisis linked to the coronavirus.
The ministry did not immediately provide additional information on the content of the meeting or any announcements after it.
The automotive industry is in great difficulty because of the economic crisis linked to the coronavirus.
Tuesday, the Automobile Platform (PFA), which brings together the main companies in the sector in France, called for the preparation of a recovery plan for the end of the crisis, while welcoming the emergency measures taken by the government to support businesses.
Since Monday, the heavyweights of the European automobile have been announcing, one after the other, factory closings for an indefinite period. Renault, PSA, Volkswagen, Fiat, Toyota and Michelin have already indicated in particular that they are suspending most of their production in Europe, due to the containment measures taken to protect the population.
This paralysis is added to the brake already suffered in China, the world's largest automotive market where the Covid-19 epidemic began. It should translate into a drop in sales in 2020.
