Deconfinement: what awaits you at the hairdresser on May 11

2020-05-07T12:21:03.045Z

Hairdressers and beauty salons will normally reopen Monday, May 11, with new hygiene rules. Here's what to expect

Hair in battle, discoloration at half mast, shaggy tips ... if it is not an emergency, it looks damn like it. For many of us, deconfinement will rhyme with a visit to the hairdresser. What should you know before crossing the threshold again of these shops, hairdressers or beauty salons, which must comply with hygiene rules that are all the more strict as promiscuity is inevitable?

A quick tour of the uses to come knowing that, the government not having validated at this time the document summarizing the hygiene rules in hairdressing salons, everyone has reflected in their corner.

Online appointment booking and limited clients

Most brands, first of all, have organized themselves to avoid too much waiting in the salon. Making an appointment online is becoming the rule. "Our agenda is full for the first two weeks," explains Emma Fokolow, who runs five salons in Maisons-Alfort (94) and Reims. "An SMS will warn the client waiting outside, when the previous client has left the premises," for his part imagined Fabien Estre, the boss of the 70 Carlance beauty salons who receive without appointment.

The health recommendation sheet being developed by the ministry also suggests that clients come alone, or just to accompany their child. "We will no longer be able to accept two girlfriends, only one of whom gets her hair done," sums up Franck Provost, the president of the CNEC (National Council of Hairdressing Companies) who also heads the Provalliance group (Franck Provost, St Algue, etc.). . Faced with these new constraints, some are innovating: Sephora thus offers a "click and collect without contact" in less than two hours, at the entrance to its stores.

Deleted magazines and disposable blouses

On the hygiene side, the time will be at zero risk. No more magazines available that delighted our sessions. The locker room should be used as little as possible, and the floor cleaned once a day. “We will disinfect the cabins after each pass. Upon arrival and then in the cabin, an esthetician will put gel on the hands of each client, lists Fabien Estre. In addition, our employees will have masks, gloves, and we have had special visors made, which do not distort what our beauticians see ”. At hairdressers, masks and glasses (or visors) will be required, "while barbers will also wear a visor covering the face," says Franck Provost.

Customers should wear single-use or washable blouses at 60 degrees. And the hygiene sheet for hairdressing salons evokes the wearing of a mandatory mask for all. In Carlance beauty salons, this will also be imposed for those who want a manicure, since the face-to-face meeting between the beautician and the client can last 45 minutes.

Spaced armchairs and rising cutting prices

The “customer journey”, too, will be on a tight line, in often small salons. A distance of one meter must be maintained between each chair, and one in two washing tubs will be eliminated on average. "Our employees will also be trained to sit behind the client, in a cutting seat," says Emma Fokolow. At home, from now on, it will be a maximum of eight customers per salon. "At Yves Rocher, there will only be two to six people per shop, and the service will be almost personalized: if a client wants to test a cream, the counselor will apply it on the hand with a spatula, never on the face", details the CEO, Alexandre Rubin.

To compensate for the loss of activity, many will increase their opening hours, or open on Monday for example. "Our salons will be open two more hours a day," reveals Franck Provost, while in those of Emma Fokolow, the hourly amplitude will increase from 7 to 21 hours, against 9 to 19 hours before. The trade unions in the profession are also demanding authorization to open on Sundays. "Without that, I will not be able to keep all my employees," insists Emma Fokolow. Above all, the prices of the cuts should increase by a few euros in a large number of salons.

Facials and makeup suspended

Not surprisingly, finally, the nature of services will change. "The treatments will be maintained, but our teams will no longer do manicures," says Franck Provost. "We are giving up on makeup because it is difficult to use a different eye shadow for each client," adds Fabien Estre.

At Sephora, the brow bar will be closed and makeup and facials will not be provided. Just like at Yves Rocher, whose “institute” section only opens on May 18: “Only eyebrow hair removal will be possible, as well as hair removal and body care,” concludes Alexandre Rubin.
