The supervisory board of the parent company of MediaMarkt and Saturn, Ceconomy, has approved a realignment of the company. Associated with this is the shedding of up to 3,500 jobs at electronics retailers, according to earlier statements, jobs are to be shed mainly in other European countries. In addition, stores are to be closed "to a limited extent".
The structures of the group with its electronics chains are to be standardized, it said. The focus of the reorganization would be uniform management structures and standardized processes and procedures across all countries. It was only in July 2019 that the company announced that it wanted to cut 600 administrative positions.
Up until now, Ceconomy has been managed in a very decentralized manner. Despite the desired upheaval, the frustration in the management and the supervisory board has recently been great, and more and more managers have left the company. According to SPIEGEL information, a successor to boss Bernhard Düttmann is already being sought, whose contract expires in October.
The changes apply to the administrative functions in the national companies as well as to the organization of the markets, it said. As a result, management expects greater efficiency and lower costs. MediaMarktSaturn will also harmonize management structures across Europe in the markets. A standard organization is to be introduced in each of the currently around 1000 stores.
