Queue in front of the Fraport test center: "Step in the completely wrong direction"
Photo: Boris Roessler / dpaThe head of Frankfurt airport has criticized the planned quarantine order for travelers returning as a "step in the completely wrong direction". "A general quarantine actually means a second lockdown for the aviation and tourism industry and for all people who have to travel across national borders," said Fraport boss Stefan Schulte on Wednesday according to a statement. In addition to holidaymakers, business travelers in particular would be hit.
Schulte spoke out in favor of expanding the test capacities for the corona virus. "Here at Frankfurt Airport we have shown that this system works. Together with our partners from politics and business, we have created the necessary infrastructure within a very short time. Only because the test capacities are running out in some cases is completely wrong Abolish already established test infrastructure. "
Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn (CDU) and several colleagues from the federal states are striving to abolish the free corona tests for travelers returning. Returnees from risk areas should go into quarantine and in future be allowed to leave them with a negative test carried out five days after entry at the earliest. At the moment, it is still the case for these travelers that they can bypass the quarantine by presenting a test that is no more than 48 hours old on arrival or by a test carried out in Germany by order of the authorities.
