PSA Sochaux is recruiting 1,000 temporary workers to return to pre-Covid production

The PSA plant in Sochaux (Doubs) is recruiting a thousand temporary workers by the end of next week, which will allow it to regain a level of production almost equal to that before the Covid-19 epidemic , we learned from management on Wednesday. Next Monday, the site will reconstitute a night shift on its assembly line for the Peugeot 3008 and 5008 and the Opel Grandland X (called “ system 2 ”), as well as an additional half-day shift for the manufacture of the 308, detailed his spokesperson to AFP.

At the end of next week, the plant will thus find a production volume approaching 2,000 vehicles per day, a level " close " to its rate before the health crisis, he stressed. At the start of the year, PSA Sochaux manufactured 2,200 vehicles daily. These team returns involve the recruitment, in progress, of around 1,000 temporary workers, the spokesperson said.

They will be added to the 300 temporary workers already integrated since the resumption of work after leave on August 17. The number of temporary workers in Sochaux, which reached 2,000 at the start of the year, had fallen to zero in the midst of the health crisis. The " vast majority " of the current recruitment wave concerns people who were already temporary workers on the site before the drop in activity caused by the epidemic, the spokesperson noted.

The " difference " in production and workforce compared to the pre-Covid situation comes from the absence of a weekend team on " system 2 ", for which no reinstatement schedule is available. still fixed, he added.

PSA Sochaux has benefited in particular from the commercial success of the 3008. With 7,300 permanent employees, the plant is the one that has seen the most massive return of temporary workers since deconfinement, among the group's French sites. The one in Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine) has been recruiting 500 temporary workers since mid-August to meet the demand for Citroën C5 Aircross.
