Damascus-Sana
Syria has exported 556 tons of pistachios this year, including 212 tons of heart pistachios and 344 tons of green pistachios to Canada, Germany, the European Union and a number of Arab countries, according to what the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform announced.
The Director of the Halabi Pistachio Office at the Ministry, Engineer Hassan Ibrahim, said in a statement to the representative of SANA that 80 percent of the total pistachio crop has been harvested so far, and that the harvest operations are continuing, indicating that the farmers of Aleppo pistachios have started harvesting their crops since late last July from various production areas in Syria. He explained that the prices of a kilo of green pistachios ranged this year between 6,500 and 7,500 pounds.
Ibrahim indicated that the office staff supervises in the field most of these works and the marketing operations in the al-Hal Market, in addition to giving certificates of origin to the border outlets through which the export takes place, after examining the exported quantities and ensuring that they are free of non-Syrian pistachios.
