European stock markets fell at the close today, with the increase in infections with the emerging coronavirus.
According to Reuters, the European STOXX 600 index fell 0.7 percent, the Spanish index, on which bank shares weighed, fell 2.2 percent, and the French and Italian stock exchanges lost more than 1 percent.
The FTSE 100 index in London fell 0.7 percent, after the number of new cases of Covid-19 nearly doubled, reaching 6,000 a day, while the travel and entertainment sector was the worst performing, losing 3.5 percent.
The banking index fell 2.6 percent to reach its lowest level since May 26, on its way to unprecedented low levels.
