The horse had "

one eye and one ear torn off and the nostrils damaged,

" said public prosecutor Eric Neveu, confirming information from BFM.TV.

Other horses were near the animal but "

they were not injured

", he said.

"

Investigations are underway

" to determine the origin of these injuries and the track of human intervention has not been ruled out, added Mr. Neveu.

An investigation was entrusted to the research section of the Vichy gendarmerie, in conjunction with the Central Office for the fight against environmental and public health attacks, which “

carries out analyzes and cross-checks

”.

At the end of August, a double pony was found mutilated but alive in a meadow in Right-Hand, about thirty kilometers away: the animal had been discovered with a cut in the side of about twenty centimeters but the wound had been able to be stitched up.

More than 150 investigations have been opened in France following these mutilations of equines, sometimes fatal, the first of which were noted in the neighboring department of Puy-de-Dôme.
