Refugees have found work in significantly more companies in Germany than before.
This is the result of a study by the Competence Center Securing Skilled Workers at the Institute of German Economy (IW).
Almost every fourth company now employs refugees - that is 429,000 companies and 18,000 more than three years ago.
The proportion of companies in which refugees are permanently employed rose from around 10 to 16 percent.
In addition, more companies are training refugees.
In traineeships, however, they say they work less often.
Biggest obstacle: insufficient knowledge of German
Looking back on 2015, when a particularly large number of refugees came to Germany, many of them were "ready for training and the job market," said study author Sarah Pierenkemper.
"Many pre-qualification measures, which also include internships with professional qualifications, have been successfully completed in the last three years."
Most of the companies stated in the study that the refugees are enriching in culturally mixed teams.
In many places, however, a lack of knowledge of German is still an obstacle to employment.
