According to the works council, the car manufacturer Daimler intends to cut around 4,000 jobs by 2025 at the company's headquarters in Stuttgart-Untertürkheim.
According to information from the German Press Agency, a paper with this content was distributed among the employees by the local employee representatives.
"Stuttgarter Zeitung" and "Stuttgarter Nachrichten" had previously reported on it.
A Daimler spokeswoman did not respond to this number when asked.
She generally spoke of the need to "optimize" costs in order to keep the company profitable.
The corona crisis is causing the numbers at Daimler to be deep in the red and is forcing the carmaker to tighten its already planned austerity course.
In the second quarter, the group drove a loss of around two billion euros.
Because factories around the world were shut down, car dealerships had to close and many other companies were unable to work and therefore could not buy trucks, the sales figures fell.
CEO Ola Källenius recently emphasized that the savings plan presented in the previous year had to be tightened in view of the Corona crisis.
This also includes significant job cuts.
Daimler has not yet given a specific number.
Initially, figures of between 10,000 and 15,000 of the around 300,000 jobs that were to be cut were reported.
Most recently, reports of 20,000 to 30,000 jobs had made the rounds.
According to the works council, around 19,000 employees work at the plant in Stuttgart-Untertürkheim.
