The job market looks better than expected for the economy in the past months of the pandemic.
Unemployment in Germany fell in September due to the autumn recovery.
The number of unemployed fell compared to the previous month by 108,000 to 2.847 million, as the Nuremberg Federal Employment Agency (BA) announced on Wednesday.
This reduced the unemployment rate by 0.2 points to 6.2 percent.
Compared to the same month last year, however, the number of unemployed rose by 613,000.
This corresponds to an increase of 1.3 percentage points.
"The effects of the corona pandemic on the labor market are still clearly visible," said the BA's regional director, Daniel Terzenbach.
"But there are slight signs of improvement."
According to the information, the number of advertisements for short-time work has also decreased.
According to current data on audited advertisements, short-time work was reported for 85,000 people from September 1 to 24 inclusive, as the BA announced.
