Reconfinement: "We have trouble containing the revolt" of small traders

2020-10-30T16:42:34.318Z

With the return of confinement, Marc Sanchez, secretary general of the union of independents (SDI), calls for the extension of the solidarity fund

Created twenty years ago, the union of the self-employed brings together 25,000 small businesses, across the country and in all sectors of activity.

Its secretary general, Marc Sanchez, is sounding the alarm as many businesses are forced to lower the curtain with the return of confinement.

Why are you worried?

MARC SANCHEZ.

The climate is insurrectionary.

Anger reactions come back to us.

The cases we are monitoring show extremely difficult individual situations.

It has been months that business leaders no longer pay themselves.

Since June, all sectors combined, the average drop in turnover has been between -20 and -40%.

Knowing that in certain sectors, it is much more: tourism, hotels, restaurants, all professions related to events ...

Why is this second confinement so badly received?

Because the support measures put in place in the spring were lifted in September.

The owners began to claim past rents, the Urssafs send the constraints of charges by offering six-month spreads while the Minister had authorized spreads over 12, 24 or 36 months.

To face this wall of debt, small businesses need cash flow.

And we just tell them, “You close.

With reduced activity, entrepreneurs have invested in their employees and clients, they have applied the three protocols and, today, they have the impression that they are not taken into account.

Hence this feeling of revolt ...

Yes, this explains the die-hardness of some very small businesses who refuse to close.

We are struggling to contain this rising revolt.

For certain activities, such as toys, hairdressing or aesthetics, the period of November and December is crucial: it can represent between 50% and 80% of turnover.

There are a lot of traders who want to stay open because they have a feeling of unfairness: why should a small florist, toy or clothing store close when people will go by the thousand to supermarkets to buy them? same products?

How would it be riskier to buy one flower than four chopsticks?

What does the SDI require to face these difficulties?

The extension of the solidarity fund to all companies, regardless of the sector, with the sole criterion of a 40% drop in activity.

The aid must be doubled from 1,500 euros to 3,000 euros.

We are also asking for its extension in time until June 30, 2021. For the charges, an exemption is required, and no longer just allowances.

As for the loan guaranteed by the State, it is necessary to review its repayment terms.
