The federal government wants to jump back to the aviation industry, which has been hard hit by the corona pandemic.

The Federal Ministry of Transport confirmed plans on Sunday that the "Handelsblatt" had previously reported on.

The industry had requested such help in the run-up to the air traffic summit at the beginning of November, but the federal government has not yet given it a promise.

According to the newspaper, the government wants to develop a strategy together with the federal states and the aviation associations and define so-called "safe corridors" with other states.

This should make long-haul flights possible again and the entry restrictions lifted.

The quarantine rules are also to be replaced in favor of test concepts.

A first meeting, in which, in addition to the Ministry of Transport, the interior and economic departments and the Foreign Office, is planned for the beginning of December.

Countries want to go along - on one condition

In the short term, the federal government is planning aid of one billion euros, the report said.

The money is supposed to benefit the capital city BER, the airports of the federal states and the German air traffic control.

The Ministry of Transport said there will be further votes, especially on financial aid.

"We are working flat out." According to the "Handelsblatt", the federal government would take over half a billion euros according to the previous considerations, the rest should come from the federal states.

Most of them responded positively, but wanted to include their previously announced financial aid.

North Rhine-Westphalia alone is supporting Düsseldorf Airport with a loan of 250 million euros secured by the state.

In the middle of the month it emerged that the planning of the BER operators for 2021 would require financial aid from the federal and state governments of up to 660 million euros in the worst case.

This year there are 300 million.
