Corona premium for working from home: These companies pay for home work

2020-11-24T10:45:05.962Z

Those who work from home have higher costs - for electricity, heating or office equipment. Some companies participate, for example with a bonus at the end of the year.

The computer runs from morning to evening, as does the heating.

And to protect your back, you need a new office chair.

With all the advantages, the home office is also a financial burden for many employees.

Home office is not "free of charge", warned IG Metall chairwoman Christiane Benner in September.

The companies would at least have to cover the costs for the minimum equipment such as a chair, table and screen.

But only a minority of companies are apparently willing to assume part of the additional costs or to pay their employees a one-time corona bonus, as a survey of selected companies by SPIEGEL shows.

Most Germans who work a lot in the home office are likely to be left with most of the costs.

This is in line with the results of a survey among insurance employees at the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences: In September 1700, the latter asked members of the Neue Assekuranz union (NAG) whether their employers contribute to the additional costs.

The result: About 80 percent of the respondents did not receive any special subsidies.

Only just under 9 percent of those surveyed reported a flat-rate cost sharing.
