Without blue marks: Economic violence can be the hardest of all

When you say "violence", you immediately think of blue marks on the victim's body, but economic violence is also a form of violence and in most cases even more severe.

Economic violence, although it leaves no physical marks, is no less dangerous than physical violence and in fact even more so.

Economic violence creates dependence on the strong side and turns the family cell into a prison and allows abuse without the ability to escape.

The road from economic violence to economic terrorism is very short and as is well known, terrorism has no rules.

For example, if the wife refuses to have a relationship with the husband, he can block her at the bank or cut off her electricity at home.

If she annoyed him, he could cut off her credit card or disable the vehicle.

When it is weak and dependent on its grace, there is no doubt that verbal violence, threats and humiliation will come very quickly and possibly the beatings as well.

Another serious issue in economic violence compared to other violence, is the fact that even if the woman mustered the courage and asked to stop it, she really has no option to break free from the nightmare.

Did you refuse to have sex?

It can very quickly develop into violence

Unlike a woman who suffers from physical violence who can escape to a home for battered women or enlist the help of a court and issue a protection order and keep the abuser away.

After all, in economic violence, even if she runs away from home, her spouse will still be able to deny her access to her financial resources.

Worse, the legal system is structured so that it is better to preserve the status quo between the spouses, on the eve of filing the claims.

The result is that a woman will be denied access to her financial resources until she submits an orderly, detailed and convincing application.

This request will be forwarded to the husband's response and until the decision is made, many weeks can pass.

And even if the decision is given, there is no guarantee that the spouse will act to uphold it and will not leave it to continue difficult legal battles.

Thus, through real economic violence and terrorism, the spouse can subdue the woman to his dictates, as she is still dependent on his graces and deeds and even if she left home and complained of economic violence, all her assets are still in his hands and she has no ability to conduct herself.

On the other hand, he can hire proper legal representation and still have the financial ability to continue to conduct himself despite the legal proceedings.

And here, precisely the economic violence, the one without the signs, is severe and has far-reaching consequences.

In the face of these difficulties, there is and is not and will not be a quick and appropriate response from the courts or the police and there is no urgency in providing remedies.

This is in contrast to physical violence.

It is not possible to end the allegations without referring to the attempt to enact a law on economic violence.

The law itself does not provide a real solution to adversity and there are quite a few improvements that must be incorporated in order for it to be effective and fulfill its purpose.

The assets are held by the husband, and there is no ability to resist

It is important to note that economic violence is violence in every way and can harm both sexes.

At the same time we are used to seeing more wealthy women (on paper) being held captive within the family cell and deprived of access to the financial resources belonging to them by law.

When a man warns of physical violence being taken against him, in most cases he will not be taken seriously enough.

When it comes to economic violence, the man's difficulty is even greater.

For, when the woman is the owner of the capital and she is abusing the man, there is almost no chance that he will get a proper answer and lower chances that he will get justice.

Only recently have men gained relative justice, when they changed the burden of bearing alimony, but equality is still a long way off.

Therefore in most cases, the economic harm to a man will be greater.
