In view of the violent storming of the US Capitol by supporters of Donald Trump, representatives of the US economy have called for the president to resign early.
Prominent hedge fund manager Bill Ackman called on Trump to resign.
In addition, Trump should "apologize to all Americans," wrote Ackman on Twitter.
He is known as an aggressive investor and last made a billion profit in the corona crisis.
At the beginning of Trump's term in office, Ackman said it was good for the US economy.
The National Association of Manufacturers advised Vice President Mike Pence to consider impeaching Trump.
The association's chief Jay Timmons said Trump incited violence to stay in power.
Pence should "seriously consider" removing Trump from office with the cabinet on the basis of the 25th Amendment to the Constitution in order to preserve democracy.
The association represents companies such as Exxon Mobil, Pfizer and Toyota.
Other associations also sharply criticized it.
The Business Roundtable, which includes the CEOs of major US corporations, said the chaos in the US capital was "the result of unlawful attempts to overturn the legitimate results of a democratic election."
One calls on Trump and all important government officials to "end the chaos and enable a peaceful transfer of power."
Jami Dimon, head of the US bank JPMorgan, said the elected representatives must "call for an end to the violence, accept the results and support the peaceful transfer of power, as our democracy has done for centuries." The head of the US Chamber of Commerce, Thomas Donohue , demanded, according to a statement, the "attacks on our nation's capitol building and our democracy must end now."
The US Congress should resume its work on Wednesday to confirm the election result.
