The International Civil Aviation Organization announced that the number of airline passengers in the world decreased by 60 percent in 2020, due to the closure measures to confront the Corona virus.
The French newspaper Le Figaro quoted the organization as saying in a statement that the number of passengers decreased by 50 percent on domestic flights and by 74 percent on international flights, noting that airlines incurred cumulative losses of 370 billion dollars as a result of these conditions.
The organization pointed out that air navigation service providers and airports, in turn, incurred losses of 115 billion dollars and 13 billion dollars, respectively.
The specialized organization of the United Nations, based in Montreal, warned of the continued decline in demand over the first quarter of this year, considering that this situation poses a challenge to the financial capacity of this industry and threatens millions of jobs in various parts of the world.
