A roofer from North Rhine-Westphalia caused outrage on Facebook: He announced that he would fire his employees if they were to be vaccinated against the corona virus. He later took it back.

It sounds like a bad joke: A managing director of a roofing company in North Rhine-Westphalia has threatened his employees with immediate termination via Facebook if they get vaccinated against Corona.

Uwe Mentrup, Managing Director of Mentrup Bedachung & Holzbau GmbH in Lengerich, wrote in a Facebook post: "Anyone who is injected with unreliable vaccines, warned by many experts around the world, endangers the stability of our processes in the company!"

He rejects "experiments with the performance of our company (sic) in favor of the pharmaceutical industry!"

Those who do not understand that have to look elsewhere for work.

The entry attracted massive criticism in social networks, and hundreds of outraged comments gathered below the post.

The post has now been deleted, but screenshots are circulating on Twitter.

The Würzburg lawyer Chan-jo Jun shared one on Twitter with the note that such a termination would be ineffective.

The Facebook post has been shared almost 3000 times and liked more than 9000 times since Saturday.

Vaccination opponent Mentrup rowed back a little later.

In a new post this Saturday he wrote that he had not prohibited any of his employees from having the vaccination or prescribed it.

"I will not do that in the future either, as this would by no means be my right".

Rather, "this action" was discussed with his employees.

The roofer did not explain exactly what the purpose of this was, merely added: "None of the haters here has so far never commented critically on the planned forced vaccinations for the nursing staff, which I find very worrying!"

The Infection Protection Act ensures that employees are free to choose when to vaccinate.

The employer can neither order a vaccination nor prohibit it.

A statutory vaccination for Covid-19 on the part of the government is not planned.

How companies should keep it in the future is still controversial.

"The employer has a duty of care in the company, so in my opinion there are some reasons that he can ask employees about a vaccination and that they have to answer this question truthfully," labor lawyer Hendrik Bourguignon recently told SPIEGEL.
