AS Monaco snatched a draw (1-1) at the Waldstadion in Frankfurt on Saturday against the Germans of Eintracht, former club of the new Monegasque coach Niko Kovac, for the third preparatory match for ASM, which came out of a five-day course in Poland.
Kovac, appointed mid-July on the ASM bench to replace Roberto Moreno, took the opportunity to test many players. But against the Eagles, still racing in the round of 16 of the Europa League, the Monegasques seemed to run out of form and embarrassed by German pressure. After a loss of Monegasque ball, the Japanese international Daichi Kamada served the Portuguese Gonçalo Paciência, who eliminated Jean Marcellin from a control of the right before striking from the left flush with the post (58th).
ASM, in difficulty, then managed to pick up the score after a big defensive error by French defender of Eintracht, Evan Ndicka, whose back pass to his goalkeeper turned into a gift for the Monegasques. If Geubbels first missed his face-to-face with Kevin Trapp, the ball returned to the feet of Anthony Musaba who came to adjust the former PSG goalkeeper from an inside of the left (84th).
Monaco had won 2-0 against Cercle Bruges its first preparation match before losing to Standard Liège (2-1). They will face the Dutch club AZ Alkmaar on August 15, the last friendly before hosting Reims for the resumption of Ligue 1 on Sunday August 23.
