Tottenham keeps hope, confuses then reconciles between Lloris and Son

Winners of Everton (1-0), the Spurs go up in the classification but remain largely behind in the race for Europe.

Tottenham kept his European dream alive by beating Everton (1-0) on Monday at the end of the 33rd day of the Premier League, after a lackluster match marked by a clash between Hugo Lloris and striker Son Heung-min . With 48 points, the Spurs go back to 8th place, seven lengths from Manchester United, 5th and last virtual qualifier for Europe.

However, the identity of the winner of the FA Cup, for which three of the top five are in the semi-finals, and the result of Manchester City's appeal to the Sports Arbitration Tribunal against its suspension from all European competition for two years, could bring the bar down. Wolverhampton, 6th, is only 4 points behind the Londoners. For Everton, 11th with 44 points, the season seems, however, well and truly over.

The match was marked by an incident just at the end of the first act. When the referee's whistle sounded, the captain of the France and Spurs team, Hugo Lloris, ran across half the field to attack his teammate Son. Lloris, apparently, did not appreciate the little determination put by the South Korean striker to defend on an action a few seconds earlier, which ended with a slightly too crossed strike from Richarlison, the action the more dangerous from the Toffees in the first 45 minutes.

Three players, including his teammate at the Blues, Moussa Sissoko, intervened and pushed the goalkeeper so that the dispute was settled in the locker room and not in front of the cameras.

Tottenham wanted more

An incident which will probably not displease José Mourinho, who loves players of character, but who surprises between two men known for their correction. Lloris and Son also left the corridor leading to the field at the same time for the start of the second period and, at the end of the match, the goalkeeper took him in his arms and briefly raised, smiling at the attacker, to show that 'They left that brief explosion of adrenaline and testosterone behind them.

A reconciliation made easier by the fact that Tottenham won, even if it was rather happy. In the 24th minute, after two blocked shots, the ball reached Giovanni Lo Celso who shot pivot. The attempt did not seem on target at slow motion, but Everton international stopper Michael Keane, who was passing by, unfortunately deflected the ball, which knocked goalkeeper Jordan Pickford (1-0, 24th) . The victory still went to the team that wanted it the most, Tottenham not having gone far to double the bet by Son in the second period, without two parades by Pickford (54, 65).
