If there weren't a problem: The tests that are supposed to find the coronavirus Sars-CoV-2 in smears from the throat and nose can only be evaluated by laboratories whose capacities are limited. Therefore, only certain groups of people are currently being tested.
The Corona test itself only takes a few hours - however, the waiting time is sometimes extended to several days due to transport and possible waiting times in the laboratory .
Rapid test for the Sars-CoV-2 coronavirus: Bosch reports breakthrough
Researchers around the world are currently looking not only for a vaccine against corona and medications that help against the lung disease Covid-19 , but also for ways to test for the virus more quickly - and, if possible, to increase test capacities. Bosch is now reporting a breakthrough.
Within a period of just six weeks, a rapid test had been developed that could be used to detect an infection with the Sars-CoV-2 coronavirus in “under two and a half hours,” the company said. The two and a half hours from taking a smear to the result are possible, among other things, because the Covid 19 rapid test can be carried out directly at the doctor or in the hospital. Transport routes are eliminated. "Time is one of the decisive factors in the fight against the corona virus," emphasizes Bosch CEO Volkmar Denner.
Covid-19 rapid test: smear from the throat or nose, analysis on site
For the Covid 19 rapid test , a smear is taken from the patient's nose or throat - just like the laboratory test. A cartridge with the sample must then be inserted into the analyzer. Bosch says that all the necessary reagents are already contained in the cartridge. Even medical personnel who are not specially trained can reliably carry out the evaluation of the coronavirus test . During the evaluation, the staff can also devote themselves to other tasks.
According to Bosch, the test for the Sars-CoV-2 coronavirus has delivered results in various laboratory tests "with an accuracy of over 95 percent" and meets the quality standards of the World Health Organization (WHO). In addition to Covid-19, the test can also be used to examine nine other respiratory diseases - including influenza A and B.
Rapid test on Corona: device passes ten Covid 19 tests in 24 hours
Up to ten corona tests should be possible with the analyzer within 24 hours. According to Bosch, the new test will result in additional test capacities. "The Covid 19 rapid test from Bosch helps curb the spread of the pandemic and break the chain of infection faster," explains Denner. In Germany, the test should be available from April, further markets are to follow, according to company information.
