Coronavirus: "Can the healed be called back to work to replace the sick?"

If a doctor confirms a cure, the worker can resume his professional activity, but with protective measures.

Every day, Le Parisien takes action to answer your questions about the coronavirus. Marie-Eve asks us today if people who have been infected with the coronavirus will be able, once cured, to return to work, in particular in order to replace colleagues who have themselves fallen ill.

We received a response on this point from the Directorate General of Health (DGS). “It is possible for a person who has contracted Covid-19 to return to work after a full recovery, which is confirmed by a doctor. However, in a period of confinement, it is requested to use telework as soon as possible, ”we are told.

When teleworking is not an option, in particular among nursing staff, the DGS details three cases: first, if the nursing staff has been diagnosed with a severe form of Covid-19, once it is considered as cured, his return to work will be decided on a case by case basis, after having discussed it with the occupational physician.

Mandatory wearing of a mask for 7 to 14 days

Most of the time, caregivers were not diagnosed, but were confined to their homes because they had more or less significant symptoms of the coronavirus. The Ministry of Health calls them "staff at risk" and "not at risk".

For the first, we must wait "at least 10 days from the onset of symptoms" to consider that their strict isolation can be lifted. Then, when resuming professional activities, they must wear "a type II surgical mask for the 7 days following the lifting of confinement". This period is extended to 14 days for immunocompromised people.

For personnel "not subject to risk", the lifting of strict isolation can be done after 8 days. Then, the situation requires the wearing of a type II surgical mask for the 7 days following the lifting of the containment, details the Ministry of Health.

Note that to date, many caregivers who have no symptoms have also been asked to stay at home, so that they can be available to replace their colleagues when they contract Covid-19 themselves.
