Salzburg (dpa) - Because of a hurricane warning, the second round second leg of Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League at Red Bull Salzburg was canceled this Thursday evening. This was announced by the Hessian Bundesliga team.

Wind gusts at top speeds of up to 120 kilometers per hour were predicted for the evening in Salzburg. For this reason, a safe arrival and departure of the spectators could not have been guaranteed.

After a crisis meeting called briefly in the early afternoon with representatives of UEFA, both clubs, the local authorities and the Salzburg police, the decision was taken by the local security authorities around six and a half hours before the scheduled kick-off. The game was sold out with 29,000 spectators.

Eintracht won the first leg 4-1 a week ago. There was no new date for the second leg at first, but it should be fixed as soon as possible.

However, the schedule in Frankfurt is quite full. The Bundesliga away game will be at Werder Bremen on Sunday, and only three days later the two teams will meet again in the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup. On March 7th, the Hessians will play in the Bundesliga at Schalke 04, and on March 12th, if they advance, the first leg of the round of 16 of the Europa League will take place. The draw for the next knockout round will take place this Friday (1:00 p.m.) in Nyon.
