Freising - "It is an insolence that the legislature cannot prevent something like this." A Tagblatt reader from Freising was deeply annoyed after the call from a brazen telephone fraudster.

The man had pretended to be an employee of the "State Lottery" and accused the Freisinger that he had signed up for a lottery four months ago and was now in default. He had missed the notice period, and now the subscription continues for another year. But if he transfers 68 euros straight away, the matter can be settled lightly. Then the fraudster asked for the Freisinger's account details. "It was finally clear to me that it was not a mix-up, but a brazen fraud," the man told the Tagblatt. After threatening the caller with the police, the operator hung up. He then discovered many similar cases on the Internet. The Freisinger filed a complaint with the Freising police inspection.

Dubious law firms are threatened with foreclosure

The stitch is well known there - even in several variations. "There are callers pretending to be lottery employees," reports police chief Ernst Neuner. "But there is also an attempt in writing to rip off here." Then the recipients are threatened with warnings. “Dubious law firms” are sometimes involved, says the head of PI Freising, and sometimes even foreclosures are threatened. Neuner's advice: Just hang up on the phone, throw the letters away. "Ignore" is the motto in this type of scams.

However, the prerequisite is that you have not actually signed a subscription. Sometimes you forget something like that. "Then," says Neuner, "of course you shouldn't be surprised if you get mail."
