Two sports car drivers who were allegedly involved in an accident on the A66 were apparently released from custody on Friday.
That said the lawyer of one arrested the "Hessischer Rundfunk".
A 71-year-old driver was killed in an accident near Hofheim am Taunus a week ago and other people were injured.
Initially, the investigators assumed that an illegal car race could have been the cause of the accident.
This suspicion no longer exists, the public prosecutor's office confirmed to the broadcaster - and thus also not the risk of flight that caused the arrest warrants.
An expert corrected the previous assumptions about the course of the accident, also on the basis of a witness video.
Further details were initially not known.
Search for the third speeder
One of the two arrested men is a 29-year-old who, according to the police, crashed his Lamborghini into the center barrier and then into the 71-year-old's car.
The woman's car then went up in flames.
The second man, a 26-year-old, initially left the scene of the accident and later turned himself in to the police.
A public manhunt is still being sought for a third party.
The public prosecutor's office had requested the arrest warrant for all three drivers for murder for low motives with means dangerous to the public.
All three would have accepted the fatal accident at least approvingly, "when you drive such cars at such high speed," said Chief Public Prosecutor Nadja Niesen in support.
