In the corona crisis, the mail order company Amazon is one of the big winners.

This can be seen not only in the record sales that the group regularly announces, but also in its personnel policy.

From January to October this year, the US online mail order company hired 427,300 new employees.

The "New York Times" reports.

The increase corresponds to an average increase of around 1400 employees per day.

Amazon created the new jobs above all in the region around the company's headquarters in Seattle, Washington State, as well as in India and Italy, the report said.

Most of the new employees work in warehouses, but many engineers and programmers have also been hired, writes the New York Times.

Meanwhile, 1.2 million people work for the group worldwide - that is 50 percent more than a year ago.

Amazon benefits from pandemic

Such growth is unprecedented for a US company.

It beats the previous hiring record at retail company Walmart two decades ago.

Walmart created 230,000 new jobs in one year.

The increase in jobs at Amazon is mainly due to the conditions during the corona pandemic: Due to global lockdowns, people are more often at home - and order significantly more goods on the Internet.

In the second quarter, the company's revenue shot up 40 percent to $ 88.9 billion.
