Bad Bunny breaks the silence in support of Black Lives Matter and asks for forgiveness

After being silent for a few weeks, Bad Bunny apologized and spoke in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.


After surprising his fans with the release of his album Las que no going to come out , Bad Bunny decided to absent himself from social media and remain silent for a few weeks.

The celebrity, who recently starred on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine , last posted on his Instagram account on May 19. "Bye, I'm gone," were the artist's last words on social media. 

Just days later, the cruel murder of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer triggered a series of protests in the United States that fueled racial justice movements around the world.

The protests were joined by many celebrities who raised their voices and took to the streets, however, Bad Bunny was conspicuous by his absence on social media.

After what happened, finally, the 26-year-old artist broke the silence and spoke in support of the Black Lives Matter movement .

In a moving statement titled "Forgive me" published in TIME magazine , Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio asks his fans to apologize for not speaking earlier.

"Pardon my silence, but I can't even believe this keeps happening. Maybe it's because I've always seen people's hearts and, at home, they always taught me that we are all the same regardless of race, religion and last name. , that we are all brothers, sisters, "he said.

"I swear I don't feel well, and I don't think I can express myself properly," added the artist in the lyrical statement.

Amid national outrage and protests after Floyd's death, fans questioned the silence of the reggaeton player who was asked to use his platform to raise his voice.

"There are artists who only upload a photo or a basic message just to calm public pressure or to look good, Bunny told TIME ." Not me. I want to go deeper and see how I can serve, how I can support the fight against a systematic monster that has been around for centuries, "he explained.

"In the case of reggaeton music, we have fought against discrimination, and although today it is the number one Latino genre in the world, we continue to suffer that discrimination, both in the world for being Latino and in the Latino community itself for being a genre that comes from the street, "he said.

"The President of the United States has made it clear from the beginning of his presidency that discrimination against Latinos is more than present. He has given racism even more power right now," he added.

The artist told the portal that there are many simple but powerful ways to help in a situation like this, such as teaching or transmitting values ​​to the community and friends.

"Right now, we are working on where to contribute seriously, economically and humanely, using the resources we have to support and in some way be part of the #BlackLivesMatter movement ," the famous man told the magazine from Puerto Rico, where he is currently he isolates himself with his girlfriend Gabriela Berlingeri .
