1,400 pigs perished in a fire overnight from Friday to Saturday, in Corseul, near Dinan (Côtes-d'Armor). The main building of the pigsty was completely destroyed, according to Le Télégramme.
About forty firefighters intervened to try to control the fire. 800 other pigs were threatened in a second pigsty, but, according to France 3, the firefighters managed to control the flames. An administrative building could also be protected.
The Côtes-d'Armor gendarmerie has opened an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.
Quite regularly, farm animals die in this type of fire. Ten days ago, 550 pigs had perished in Finistère. Some had died poisoned by the smoke, others had to be euthanized.
