China restricts sensitive exports

Exporting Chinese technology such as drones or software could become more difficult in the future. China passed a law on Saturday - presumably in response to US sanctions.

China has passed a law restricting sensitive exports for national security reasons.

State television said the law applies to all companies in China - including foreign ones.

Technology that is on a corresponding list is therefore affected.

Observers see this as an instrument for possible counter-actions by Beijing after the US sanctions against several Chinese companies such as Huawei and Tiktok.

A report by the Chinese news agency Xinhua said the law enables China to take countermeasures against a country that "abuses export restrictions and thereby harms China's national security and interests."

Technology such as algorithms or drones affected

According to Bloomberg, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced in August that the Chinese list of goods for export restrictions is much shorter than that of the USA.

Technology like algorithms or drones would be on it.

The list can, however, be expanded at will.
