Coronavirus: Johnson, restrictions in place for 6 months

(ANSA) - LONDON, SEPTEMBER 22 - The expected duration of the new restrictions restored today by the British government on the coronavirus emergency front is "six months".

Tory Prime Minister Boris Johnson said this in the House of Commons, stating that next week the executive will submit to Parliament an extension of the emergency legislation approved in spring in the most acute phase of the pandemic.

The measures also include reducing the maximum number of wedding guests to 15 people.

Johnson called the current situation "a dangerous turning point" to be addressed immediately.

Labor opposition leader Keir Starmer approved the new measures, but accused the government of not having a comprehensive strategy, criticized the flaws in the test and tracing system and said that a possible national lockdown would be the sign of a "failure" of the executive.
