Ligue 1 is in mourning.
Referee Sébastien Desiage died this Thursday at the age of 46 from a long illness.
"We knew that Sébastien Desiage was going through a health test for several months but his disappearance is a shock", testifies the president of the Federation, Noël le Graët, on the site of the Federation.
"The referees, the Federation are very sad," continues the president of the FFF.
He was a man respected and appreciated for his qualities as a referee and a man.
He was passionate about and a lover of football and the game. The Federation offers its most sincere condolences to his family and loved ones ”.
His last L1 match, PSG - Angers in March 2018
Originally from Saint-Etienne, Sébastien Desiage practiced at the highest level of French refereeing since July 1, 2013. During his career, he led 84 Ligue 1 matches and 80 Ligue 2 matches. The first meeting of his career at highest level was Caen - Valenciennes (1-0), August 6, 2011.
The Rhône-Alpes Auvergne League referee had also refereed international matches in the Europa League or during qualifying for Euro 2016.
His last match in the elite (PSG-Angers) dated back to March 2018. He made a comeback in June 2019 and refereed a National match at the end of the summer, before his illness forced him to leave the grounds definitely.
