At a time when news news almost entirely revolves around the pandemic, from EL PAÍS we want to prevent the health crisis from making other emergencies of great relevance to everyone be forgotten.

For this reason, next Wednesday, October 28, we will launch a specific digital section on Climate and Environment, renewing our commitment to these contents.

Climate change and the environment have always been important to this newspaper, but we believe the time has come to go one step further by creating our own web-focused team to expand attention to these issues.

This section will deal with biodiversity, air quality in cities, water management, plastic pollution ... But, as the name itself already has an impact, we want to give special importance to the climate crisis , an issue that goes beyond the environmental implications to enter the economy, social justice, health, food, international relations or almost any area of society.

Crucial decisions related to climate protection must be made in the coming years that are of enormous importance to our lives and those of future generations.

As journalists, our commitment is not only to report in the most complete and rigorous way possible, but also to explain these sometimes complex issues and to inquire when the answers are not clear.

The Climate and Environment team is made up of Manuel Planelles, Esther Sánchez and Miguel Ángel Medina, with the coordination of Clemente Álvarez.

All journalists specialized in these subjects.

However, given the cross-cutting nature of issues such as climate change, apart from his work, this section will also feed on the most interesting related content from other areas of the newspaper.

Likewise, due to the global nature of these challenges, we will also have the support of our network of correspondents around the world.

In many cases these are planetary affairs, but not for that far distant.

One of the objectives of the Climate and Environment team will be precisely to bring these issues closer to what matters to people, with simple and useful information.

For this purpose, Climate and Environment will include a subsection called Expert Area in which specialists from multiple disciplines will explain complex issues in a didactic way and another with the name of Vida Eco in which, through short videos, practical examples will be shown of what citizens can do to reduce their environmental footprint.

The purpose of this digital section is to take advantage of all the possibilities of Internet formats and languages to offer more attractive and interesting content.

Starting on October 28, this section will launch a

Climate and Environment

newsletter

every Wednesday afternoon

with the most outstanding information on these topics.

Likewise, the contents of the section can also be followed from their social media accounts.

For now, it will start on Facebook and Twitter.
