In a report, the Observatory of Inequality in France revealed that poverty is increasingly widespread among the French, indicating that the most affected by it are young people and those with limited incomes.

"In France, one out of ten children grows up in a poor family ... and that half of the poor are young people between the ages of 18 and 29, 20 percent of them are students, and a third of them are children and adolescents," West France newspaper quoted Louis Morin, director of the observatory.

Morin warned that "the recession in France has reached levels unprecedented this year since World War II, and we will pay the price in light of expectations of a devastating increase in unemployment rates."

According to the observatory report, which was published by the newspaper yesterday, half of the poor in France are unemployed, temporary contractors, low-income employees or students, and one in four unemployed lives below the poverty line.

"There are about 5.3 million poor people in France, and this problem has spread in the country for more than 15 years," said Anne Brunner, co-director of the report.

The report indicated that its study relied on data dating back to before the Corona epidemic crisis, which suggests a further deterioration of the standard of living of these poor social segments during the current year due to the economic repercussions of the epidemic.
