The clubs of the German handball league have agreed on a general release of their national players for the upcoming international match window.

The clubs of the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga came to this decision at a video switch.

After concessions from politics and associations, the threatened non-cancellation is off the table, the European Championship qualifiers of the German handball players against Bosnia-Herzegovina (November 5) and in Estonia (November 8) can come.

"We know about the importance of the international matches for the national associations, they are also extremely important for the EHF and IHF", said Frank Bohmann, Managing Director of the Handball Bundesliga (HBL).

But he also emphasized: "We absolutely need the guarantees for test and hygiene concepts from each individual association. They must be made available to the clubs that are withdrawing them. This has already happened with many associations, but not all."

In other words: only those regional associations are assigned that commit to complying with the Corona guidelines from the European umbrella organization EHF.

In addition, the associations must submit their own safety and hygiene concepts to the clubs for things like transport and accommodation.

The rapid tests previously practiced by the majority in the countries must be replaced by several PCR tests.

The new model quarantine ordinance of politics, according to which professional athletes no longer have to be in quarantine for days as before, but are allowed to return directly to their clubs with negative PCR tests, is making it easier for club representatives.
