Insurers on Friday announced support measures for their policyholders and tenants of stores and buildings they own.

They thus undertake to

“waive at least one month's rent”

for small businesses with fewer than 250 employees, administratively closed, announced the French Insurance Federation (FFA).

This measure is valid for hotels, cafes and restaurants, during the months of October, November and December 2020.

Other donors have announced a similar gesture of solidarity.

As during the first confinement, the Compagnie de Phalsbourg has undertaken to cancel the rents of stores, restaurants, sports halls and shows affected by the administrative closures.

Insurers were heavily criticized in the spring for their late responses to the crisis and business interruption insurance, the majority of which (93%) do not come into play during a pandemic.

Their communication, deemed insufficient, masked the extent of their contribution to the national solidarity effort.

On Friday, they announced that, as was the case during the first lockdown, closed businesses will continue to be insured, even in the event of late payment of their insurance premiums.

And people suffering from a long-term illness and on sick leave as a result of the pandemic

“will be offered provident coverage.”

The FFA said the companies' actions will continue during the lockdown.

"Insurers will support the French economy by continuing to deploy the investment plan, particularly for the benefit of the tourism and health sectors."

At the same time, the Ministry of the Economy is working on a

“new insurance scheme for companies in the event of a health disaster”.

The executive is in favor of a system focused on very small businesses and SMEs.

Aid would be capped and flat-rate.

The goal is for the device to be operational in 2021. Time is running out.
