The German Football League announced that Lewandowski deserved this award after scoring 9 goals in 3 matches, 4 goals against Hertha Berlin, 3 goals against Eintracht Frankfurt and 2 goals against Armenia Bielefeld.
Lewandowski won the title of top scorer in the German league last season, with 31 goals, a number he had never reached before in one season.
