Participants in the symposium held by the Lattakia Agriculture Directorate today recommended taking a set of scientific and practical measures to treat olive trees affected by fires in the governorate, the most prominent of which is knowing the extent and magnitude of the damage to the trees, and the emphasis on emergency irrigation directly and pruning trees according to the severity of the damage and cutting the tree from the soil level in case of damage And the addition of appropriate fertilizers and the application of the integrated control program for olive pests and the replacement of dead trees.

Participants in the symposium that was held in the governorate building in cooperation with the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering at Tishreen University, the Agricultural Scientific Research Center and the Peasants Union in Lattakia proposed a set of ideas such as growing legumes, which in itself are a source of nitrogen fertilizers that are very useful for trees, cultivating good varieties of olive trees that are economically feasible and resistant to diseases, and develop a plan Scientific to restore agricultural production as soon as possible.

Engineer Munther Khairbek, Director of Lattakia Agriculture, stated that the fires that broke out on the ninth and tenth of this month in the governorate, which amounted to 96 fires, caused great damage to 233,000 citrus trees, a million and 200,000 olive trees, and 6,200 beehives, in addition to the damage to forest forests, stressing the need to unite efforts to address the damage. That hit the trees and help the peasants to hold on to their land.

Dr. Gerges Makhoul from the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering at Tishreen University confirmed that the olive tree is perennial and has a high regenerative capacity compared to other trees and thus it can renew itself from the sleeping buds located in the crown, the trunk, the soil surface or under the soil surface, but it needs help with ambulatory irrigation directly and the procedure of pruning and cutting the tree. From the soil level in the event of severe damage, then conducting surface cultivation of the damaged orchards at the end of November and adding fertilizer during February.

Makhoul emphasized the implementation of the integrated control program for olive pests, especially the jasmine butterfly, during the growing season to preserve the trees and replace the dead trees with trees suitable for the affected area according to the instructions of the Ministry of Agriculture.

Dr. Ali Al-Khatib, a citrus specialist from the Agricultural Scientific Research Center in Lattakia, stated that the scientific and practical measures that must be taken to treat citrus trees affected by fires indirectly are done through knowing the extent of damage and then following up on the usual service operations with the necessity of spraying with copper compounds immediately so that Fully wash the tree and follow up the rest of the service operations by adding basic fertilizers

The Governor of Lattakia, Ibrahim Khader Al-Salem, spoke at the beginning of the seminar about its importance, as it focuses on scientific and practical methods of treating olive and citrus trees that were damaged by fires in the governorate, stressing that the immediate rehabilitation of the damaged homes, the provision of water, electricity and communications, and a large number of services and works have been implemented to complete them.
