After three years of cordial agreement with Edouard Philippe, Emmanuel Macron intends to take over the reins. The appointment this Friday morning of techno Jean Castex in Matignon is proof of this. And the arrival a few hours later of Nicolas Revel at the head of the cabinet of the Catalan official proceeds from the same logic.

Nicolas Revel, 54, is in fact close to the President of the Republic. The two men were assistant general secretaries at the Elysée Palace under François Hollande from 201 2 to 2014. Pushed by Emmanuel Macron, Nicolas Revel was then approached in 2017 to be appointed chief of staff to Edouard Philippe. But the latter preferred to impose Benoît Ribadeau-Dumas, a close friend.

Note that the state summit will include three former assistant secretaries general of the Elysée Palace - Emmanuel Macron and Nicolas Revel under François Hollande and Jean Castex under Nicolas Sarkozy - and as before four enarchs including Alexis Kohler, right arm of Emmanuel Macron as secretary general of the Elysée. This observation aroused criticism from the opposition who joked about the promise of a "new world" made by Emmanuel Macron.

Nicolas Revel, whose name had also circulated to replace Gérard Collomb in the Interior in 2018, was director of Health Insurance since 2014. A graduate of the ENA in 1993 then advisor to the Court of Auditors, he is also a close friend of the former mayor of Paris Bertrand Delanoë of which he was chief of staff. He is also the son of academician Jean-François Revel and journalist Claude Sarraute.
