Leonid Slutsky, head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Russian State Duma, called on all signatory states to the nuclear deal with Iran to refuse to renew US sanctions against this country.

TASS quoted Slutsky as telling reporters today that the US State Department’s statement regarding renewing sanctions against Iran violates all international law rules, noting that “this step came despite the UN Security Council’s vote against extending sanctions last Friday.”

The Russian official added, "There are also US threats to impose extraterritorial sanctions against Russia and China for standing against the decisions imposed by Washington."

He said that this impudent policy to consolidate American hegemony must be opposed and faced by all member states of the nuclear agreement, including European partners, stressing that “it is unacceptable for one of the parties to unilaterally exit from international agreements ratified by UN Security Council and other decisions. Then try to impose his will on the other parties through sanctions.

"The United States decided to break the nuclear agreement, ignoring the diplomatic efforts that took many years and blatantly provoked Iran, and thus it has lost the right to discuss Tehran's commitment to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action," Slutsky said.

In May 2018, US President Donald Trump announced his country's withdrawal from the nuclear agreement signed between Iran and the P5 + 1 group in 2015, and the reinstatement of sanctions against Tehran, despite the European Union's opposition to that.
