A recent British study warned that the Corona virus leads to type 1 diabetes in children, after some hospitals witnessed twice the number of young patients with this condition compared to the normal level.
According to the study conducted by researchers from Imperial University in London on children in four hospitals and published by The Independent newspaper, an autoimmune disease that suppresses the body's ability to produce insulin may develop alongside the Corona virus and they found the first evidence of a possible link between the two.
Dr. Karen Logan indicated that during the height of the Coronavirus, the number of new cases of type 1 diabetes in children was unusually high in two hospitals compared to the previous one, indicating that some of these children were infected with the active Coronavirus or had previously been exposed to the virus.
The study showed that about 70 percent of children with diabetes suffer from diabetic ketoacid (DKA), a dangerous complication that leads to the accumulation of ketones to dangerous levels in the body, and that 50 percent of diabetic ketoacid cases were observed to be severe and represent a much higher percentage than usual. .
