Would the French be schizophrenic behind the wheel? We can wonder when reading the 10th annual barometer of responsible driving, published this Wednesday by the Vinci Autoroutes Foundation. Conducted by Ipsos with 12,400 people in eleven European countries between February 28 and March 9, this survey which, for the first time, questioned the respondents on their state of mind when they drive, provides lessons for the less surprising.
The interior, a bubble
Thus one driver in five (and even 28% in Île-de-France) admits "no longer being really the same person when he is driving and considers himself more nervous, impulsive or aggressive than in everyday life" . This manifests itself in incivility towards other drivers who come to disturb his peace of mind while he is locked in his cockpit, a real bubble that isolates him from the outside.
