Tour de France: Sagan what is it?

Sam Bennett tried to frustrate his competitors in the battle for the green jersey. Peter Sagan will probably no longer be able to take it off. There was trouble about Primoz Roglic's bike.

Fight for green:

Peter Sagan did everything again to win the green jersey.

He sprinted against Sam Bennett, the leader in the points classification, in the intermediate sprint, and in the end sought his luck in a breakaway group.

The plan: If Sagan crossed the finish line with the group, he would probably be the fastest in the sprint and could catch up important points on Bennett.

But the muscular Irishman, actually not made for attempting escape, did not let go of Sagan's rear wheel.

In the end they drove to the finish line together - and Bennett sees the green light at the end of the tour tunnel.

Frustration:

"It was probably very frustrating for my competitors how I drove today. But they are so strong that I had to do it that way," said Bennett. "I had to throw the stage away and focus on Sagan and the fight for that Focus on scoring. "

That succeeded.

The Deceuninck-Quick-Step sprinter is now 55 points ahead of Sagan.

The seven-time winner of the green jersey is unlikely to be able to catch up on the way to Paris.

Or, as Sagan's team-mate Maximilian Schachmann put it: "It's pretty much impossible to take Sam Bennett off that jersey."

Stage result:

Sagan and Bennett had nothing to do with the day's victory over the last few kilometers.

Sören Kragh Andersen won the 166.5-kilometer 19th stage from Bourg-en-Bresse to Champagnole.

Primoz Roglic stays in the yellow jersey.

Kragh "Bumm" Andersen:

After Kragh Andersen's first victory on the 14th stage, his competitors should have kept an eye on him.

But maybe the Dane simply has too irresistible a start.

In any case, he chose a tactic similar to his first success: he attacked a few kilometers from the finish, set himself apart from his surprised pursuers and actually managed to gain a lead on his own.

In the last few meters he had to laugh - it had worked again.

Team Sunweb has now won three stages, a very good result.

"The champagne corks will definitely pop again and we will enjoy it," said Kragh Andersen's German team-mate Nikias Arndt.

The TGV:

The stage actually started with a train ride.

Rémi Cavagna tried to escape, but nobody followed him.

For a long time the French drove alone at the front and lived up to his nickname "TGV von Clermont-Ferrand".

In the first hour of the race, Cavagna drove an average of around 51 km / h.

But the 25-year-old couldn't keep up the pace so lonely, and later he was caught up again.

Then he could switch back to the miniature train mode.

Attention, control:

every evening the tour publishes the day's penalties.

On Thursday evening there was a little surprise: Merijn Zeeman, sporting director of Team Jumbo-Visma, had to leave the race.

The reason: He is said to have approached a functionary of the World Cycling Federation UCI when he wanted to examine the bike of Tour leader Primoz Roglic for mechanical doping.

This of course quickly led to speculation, so that Jumbo-Visma was forced to comment on Friday.

The inspector damaged the bike, it said.

That's why Zeeman was angry.

However, the sports director apologized for his reaction.

Oh yes, the bike is said to have complied with the regulations.

Outstanding:

Lukas Pöstlberger was probably happy on Thursday evening when he was in bed.

Finally the difficult alpine stages were done, three days to Paris.

What can stop a driver there?

For example a bee.

It stabbed the professional from Bora-hansgrohe in the mouth on the 19th stage.

Pöstlberger suffered a strong allergic reaction and had to be hospitalized.

Fortunately, he soon felt better.

He had to give up the tour anyway, just like 29 riders before him.

The watch type:

It will be Tadej Pogacar's last chance to win the yellow jersey.

In the 36.2-kilometer mountain time trial from Lure up to the Planche des Belles Filles, the Slovenian has to catch up with Primoz Roglic by 57 seconds on Saturday.

But he is both a very good time trial and a nimble climber.

At the Slovenian time trial championship in June, Pogacar had won ahead of Roglic, but was only nine seconds faster.

That already shows how difficult it will be for him on Saturday.
