Superstar Tiger Woods missed the cut at the 120th US Open.

The 15-time major winner needed 77 strokes for his second round on Friday (local time) on the difficult par 70 course of the Winged Foot Golf Club and clearly missed qualifying for the two decisive rounds at the weekend with a total of 150 strokes.

For Martin Kaymer, too, the tournament, endowed with 12.5 million US dollars, ended prematurely.

After a good opening round in Mamaroneck, New York, the 35-year-old played a round of 76 and failed with 147 strokes to one stroke at the cut.

Kaymer had won the US Open in 2014.

Since then, the two-time major champion has been waiting for another tournament victory.

Things went much better for Stephan Jäger, who confirmed his strong condition from the day before.

The German, who lives in the USA, played a round of 70 on day two and is in twelfth place with a total of 141 strokes.

The 31-year-old had secured his ticket for the US Open with strong performances on the second-rate Korn Ferry tour.

The lead in the second major tournament of the year was taken by the American Patrick Reed with 136 strokes in front of his compatriot Bryson DeChambeau (137), who with a round of 68 as only one of three players remained below the court standard on Friday.
