(ANSA) - CAIRO, SEPTEMBER 27 - The wait continues in Cairo to find out what the decision of a court of assizes on the precautionary custody in prison of Patrick George Zaki, an Egyptian student of the University of Bologna accused of subversive propaganda on Facebook is expected: the announcement of whether or not the incarceration will be extended by another 45 days
His lawyer, Hoda Nasrallah, after yesterday's hearing had predicted that the outcome will be known "probably tomorrow morning", but still around noon no announcements had come.
The 29-year-old Patrick was not taken to aular yesterday, remaining in the Tora prison, on the southern outskirts of Cairo.
An absence that the lawyer had not been able or wanted to interpret in any sense.
Patrick, arrested under controversial circumstances on February 7, faces up to 25 years in prison according to Amnesty.
The cautionary custody in Egypt can last two years and after a first phase of five months of fortnightly renewals delayed by the Covid emergency, now the case is in that of 45-day extensions.
The charges against him are based on ten posts from a Facebook account that his lawyers consider fake but that have set up, among other things, the "spread of false news, incitement to protest and incitement to violence and terrorist crimes".
