Legendary Japanese animation studio Ghibli will receive an honorary Palme d'Or at the 77th Cannes Film Festival in May. "Porco Rosso," "Princess Mononoke," "Spirited Away', and "My Neighbor Totoro' are considered masterpieces of cinema.

'Like all cinema icons, (the characters in these films) populate our imaginations with abundant and colorful universes and sensitive and committed stories,' says Cannes Festival chief Iris Knobloch. George Lucas, the father of the Star Wars saga, will also be awarded an honorary Palm of Honor at the Cannes Festival (May 14-25) in Cannes, France, on the Hollywood side of the festival. The Palm will be presented by actress Camille Cottin, and will take place between May 14 and May 25, Cannes organizers announced Wednesday. The festival will also award a collective Palm of Honor to the studio, including Isao Takahata, who died in 2018 from lung cancer.
