Several explosions are said to have rocked a Russian airfield in Crimea. The attack is likely to be a bitter loss for Putin's military.

It is not yet clear whether the attack on the peninsula, which has been illegally annexed since 2014, came from Kiev. There are several video recordings of the explosions and fire in Crimea circulating on X (formerly Twitter). Sirens can be heard in the background of some videos, the flames and clouds of smoke sometimes rise meters high into the air. So far, there is no official information about whether and to what extent attack helicopters from Putin's army were damaged or destroyed by the fire. The X account, "Ukraine Battle Map", which regularly reports on events in the Ukrainian war, writes of seven to twelve helicopters destroyed. This would emerge from a comparison of NASA satellite images from before and after the explosion on Wednesday morning. According to the account and other information on X, the attack came from Ukraine. The armed forces are said to have used ATACMS short-range ballistic missiles supplied from the USA.
